Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson, was born in Paris France of British parents Jacqueline Luesby Watson and Chris Watson both attorneys. At the age of five, she moved to Oxfordshire and attended her first Dragon School. Emma's dream was to become an actor. As a young girl of 6, she enrolled in the Oxford Stagecoach Theatre Arts branch in which she was taught classes in acting, singing and dancing. By the time she turned 10, she had already taken part in a variety of Stagecoach productions and plays. The casting process began in 1999 for Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the film adaptation of British author J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was found by agents via their Oxford teacher. David Heyman announced to Emma that after eight consecutive auditions, she and Rupert Grint were chosen as Hermione and Harry Potter. Emma's film debut coincided with the release Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2002). It beat all previous records for its opening and weekend ticket revenues, and was the most-recorded 2001 movie. The film received praise from reviewers, and so were the performances of its three new starlets. The Daily Telegraph, an influential British paper, called Emma's performance "amazing".
